Book Review: Love in Transit

The concept:

What if you gave six authors the same blurb? Would the stories look anything the same? Or would they be as different as the authors writing them?

The blurb:

You know those people that have a house full of motivational slogans? Embrace Every Moment, stamped on their coffee mugs. Always Kiss Me Goodnight painted above their perfectly made beds.

I’m not one of those people.

This morning I overslept, then slipped on a stray sock and banged my toe into the nightstand. The elevator in my building broke and I had to run down six flights of stairs. And then my local coffee shop was closed. For health code violations.

What’s that? Not the end of the world? You want me to suck it up?

Did I mention I’m wearing a wedding dress… on the subway?

It’s a Good Day for a Hot Mess. Someone embroider that on a pillow.

The stories:

Times Square by Jana Aston
St. George Station by Ainsley Booth
The Hammersmith & City Line by Kitty French
The Loop by BJ Harvey
Capital South by Raine Miller
Wall Street Station by Liv Morris

My thoughts:

What a cool idea! Six stories by six authors based around one idea, and two of them are Jana Aston and Ainsley Booth, both of whose books I love. I had to one-click!

So, the verdict… Did the concept work?

Yes, very well. The stories were all great and totally different. In some, the blurb scene came at the beginning, and in others at the end. For me, the most interesting thing was that none of them took the obvious path of a jilted bride escaping on the train.

Overall, my favourites were Times Square and St. George Station (which is a follow-up to Personal Delivery that I also reviewed recently). But the other four stories were definitely worth reading and a great introduction to some new (to me) authors I might otherwise not have read.

Cool idea! It reminds me of my 8th grade English teacher. He was always giving us story prompts and after we would all write a short story based on the prompt, we would have the opportunity to share our stories with the class. They were always so different! You’ve intrigued me – now I have to buy this book.

  2. The beginning of the story is right accepted (a overslept morning) but what happened on the subway was funny for me but these words encouraging me (wearing a wedding dress) a lot to read the whole story inside of the story.
These things are totally unexpected so, if you read the story by putting your self instead of that (wedding dress) character you will found a new life which maybe you were wondering to live and many more things you know. just in one word I select a character from the story which I like to play on my mind while reading than I read

Maybe I’m overthinking without knowing the whole story but these are my own opinion that I presented what or how do I read a story and you read your own way how do you feel comfortable.

I like the idea of taking a blurb to different writers and see what happens. How many times has this been done and published?

I have an ARC that I started that I have wanted to get back to where various authors wrote different chapters of the the book. Seems like a take on the one sentence game used in English class or as an ice breaker game. This one looks like fun.
