The Life cover

I’ve been working with Abigail Sins since 2015 – I do some of my covers myself, but she’s done the rest, including all the hand-drawn art for the Blackwood Security series. I’ve always liked my covers to tell the stories rather than just being stock art or the ubiquitous half-naked dude, so she draws little mixed-up scenes from the books for me.

Anyway, over the years, she’s got pretty proficient at taking my slightly dubious descriptions and turning them into actual art. Case-in-point is the Life cover.

Here’s my initial brief:

“Okay, so I want a naked dude, but we can’t show his arse because Amazon won’t like that.”

“In my head, he looks kind of like Chris Hemsworth.”

I even drew a picture. Artistic, huh?

But luckily, Abi's good at interpretation. Here’s the final version:

I LOVE the transition between how you see the “LIFE” cover and how Abigail Sins interpreted it for you. I just HAD to pre-order the book, the model does kinda look like Chris Hemsworth.

It’s really interesting seeing your rough sketch & description being turned into a cool book cover! Abigail Sins has obviously gotten to know you so well to be able to do it! Thanks for sharing this with us!

I always prefer a cover that is drawn for the story, rather than generic romance covers, which always seem to cut off the head. If it is maddening in photos, it is worse in covers, like the whole book has been cropped to fit the screen.
    A. Sins has given you a beautiful cover.

    • Part of me wonders whether I’d sell more books if I joined the trend, but so far, I haven’t gone that route, although I may for a future series as an experiment. I do love my covers to reflect a scene from the book rather than being generic 🙂

It’s a beautiful cover and tasteful enough for Amazon. I love your initial artwork and the finished cover.
