A missing girl from the past. A monster from the present…

When Bethany Stafford-Lyons accepted a position as personal assistant at Sirius Consulting, she didn’t expect to become embroiled in the murky world of American politics within a week of starting the job, but with money tight, she has little choice but to follow her new boss Alaric McLain overseas.

Together with Emmy Black, Alaric’s ex-girlfriend, they find themselves back on the trail of a stolen painting, but that’s not the only mystery they have to solve. Fourteen years ago, teenage homecoming queen Piper Simms disappeared, and finding her might be the only way to stop a criminal from stealing a seat in the US senate.

Catching a killer is all in a day’s work for Emmy Black, but her world is rocked by a betrayal from somebody very close to her. Can she fight back? Or will a ghost from the past destroy her future?

Elise Noble is an English rose with a few thorns who loves chocolate, sleep, and well-defined abs. Not hers, unfortunately. She lives near London with a horse who eats all her money and a dog who eats her car keys. Always an avid reader, she took up writing after inspiration struck in an old manor house and still pinches herself over the fact that people read her books.

Elise writes romantic suspense with gutsy women, protective heroes, and a healthy dose of humour.

I loved this book since I got a little bit of my favorite Blackwood characters. Elise wrote another great book and included all my favorites like Alaric, Black, Emmy, Ana, Sam and many more. It is a great story and moves along nicely. Can’t wait for the last one to find out what happens.I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.

Elise Noble delivers with this romantic thriller. I enjoy the creative dialog and humor that she includes in the story. Emmy and Black have become my favorite characters. I’m anxious to see what trouble they get into next!

Another awesome book by Elise Noble. This is the second book in a trilogy. Elise does a great job of giving the reader enough info to enjoy the book as a stand-alone story, without slowing down the pace. My recommendation is to read the first book in the trilogy, The Girl With The Emerald Ring, first, not because you'll be lost without it, but because it too was a great book and will add to your enjoyment of this one. This book has everything: fast paced, intriguing story line, well-developed interesting characters, romantic suspense and dirty politics. I find myself cheering for the good guys and enjoying it when the bad guys get their just rewards. If you enjoyed this book, you'll enjoy all of the Blackwood Security books, starting with Pitch Black. Enjoy!

This was a fantastic book. A continuation of Emerald, it goes on from that book and is filled with all kinds of tricky situations, fun and fights, laughter and crying and of course guns! I thought it was amazing how Elise came up with those tricky situations that you would think could never have been figured out. Elise has got the most fantastic creativity that she puts down in her books, how she comes up with these scenarios is amazing. I have to say this is one of my favorites. I also loved having Sky in this book again also. She's great!

Book two in the series continues Alaric and Beth's story along with Sky's adventure. Another perfectly written book that leaves us anticipating the next and last installment. The detail given to the situations and the characters themselves is great. I love the way Elise is able to weave a story inside of the book's orginal story. It is always fascinating to get to know more aspects of our Blackwood family and we are happy and sad along with our favorite assassin, Emmy. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.

With the first book in this series, I was hooked. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Very well written, excitement, thrilling situations, vivid descriptions, funny, witty, my new favorite series! Anyone who chances this read will definitely not be disappointed. Also, I very seldom write my thoughts on books that I read. This author is my favorite author. Enjoy!!!

I really enjoyed this book! I have to say I didn't see that twist coming, but at the same time it all makes sense looking back. I don't want to give away what happens in this story so I will say that it is a must read, but to truly feel the full impact of this story it should be read in the reading order listed on Elise Noble's website to feel the full impact of the twist.

Amazing, I love all of the books in this series.. I love how all the characters come to life and Emmy all I can say is she’s a hero.

This story is more like the earlier books ms. Noble wrote that hooked me. It has more depth, is more complicated, and just has a meat to it that I found lacking in some of the others. It seemed like more research and time went into its writing. I enjoyed it very much. This is more like it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing read - as usual

Just be warned: Don't start reading at night if you have to work the next morning. The book could cost you some hours of sleep as it is hard to put down.

This is part 2 (but a standalone) of 3. It makes sense to read "The girl with the emerald ring" first as it provides some more background informations. But best start with the Black trilogy - you won't regret it and maybe get addicted, too.

Besides Alaric and Beth there are some new characters Sky, Rune and Pale. Together with Emmy and her friends Alaric is still hunting the missing paintings, but also gets involved in the elections of the senator in Kentucky. There are some very dirty things to be unveiled and even a cold case of a missing girl to be solved. And Black, Emmy's husband, can't avoid that some ugly history is revealed.

I am already looking forward to part 3 which will be released at the end of the year.

Great characters and a great story line. This was a continuation of the trail for the missing painting. I suggest you read the trailer of the book. If you don't normally read the Blackwood series I suggest you read the previous book - The girl with the Emerald ring first as this is a continuation of the story. Elise Noble the author always gives you your monies worth and she certainly did here. I thought we were at the end when the bad guy had been sent to jail, and the corrupt political candidate had been killed accidently by the guy in jail but would have gone t o jail herself for the murder of a school friend who she had knocked into the lake while driving her car. The car is found with the young woman still inside it. The bad guy escapes jail and decides to kidnap Emmy, who with her husband had landed the bad guy in jail. Emmy's car is being used by Beth and a 15 year old girl. The Felon then decides to go for a ransom. Using great skills the Blackwood team find the guy and the women who have escaped and are in a wooded area. I enjoyed this part of the story as much as them actually finding one of the missing paintings they were looking for. Emmy now knows that her husband switched the cash and diamonds that her ex was taking to pay for the painting of The Girl with the Emerald Ring , the picture they are trying to retrieve. Emmy has given her husband the task of fixing her ex's reputation. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic second instalment in Alaric's story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 21, 2022
No plot spoilers
There are potential triggers relating to kidnap and child prostitution.
There is some swearing and one sex scene lightly written.
The characterisation is absolutely perfect, you feel you know the characters as friends.
The plotline is so twisty and engaging I couldn't put the book down!
I adore the Blackwood family, as outrageous and competent as they are, the unexpected humour always makes me laugh and the sweet scenes are capable of inducing tears.
Elise Noble knows how to craft a good character and gift them with a twisty plot.
I have no problem recommending the series to fans of the genre but would advise reading from the beginning to obtain the best reading experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced suspense romance - one of the best books in the series
Reviewed in Germany on October 17, 2020
Great book! I recommend to read the first book of the trilogy First ("the Girl with the Emerald ring") because there is Happening a Lot in this book and I guess it will be easier to follow the Story if you already know the Background. But it's also perfectly possible to read the book as standalone.
The story is very exciting and I Love all the characters. The book focuses more in Beth and Alaric. Moreover, Black's Secret is finally lifted.
Now I am impatiently waiting for the next book to learn more about Sky and what's Blackwood gonna Bring for her.
All in all I recommend to Start with the Black trilogy nad advise to Not Stop Reading until you have read all three series of Blackwood Security :)

A political row which has the potential to be a national disaster rumbles in the background of the second book in this series. While Beth and Alaric get closer to finding their goal and their happiness. Black brings a team in to investigate the political situation and finds an adversary from his past is involved.

Black’s past sadly comes back to haunt him in a spectacular way when his betrayal of Alaric is uncovered by Emmy. Forced to work together they As they rescue the kidnapped Beth and Rune. The question is has their amazing connection been ruined by Black’s jealousy of boyfriends past. I can't wait to find out in the next and concluding part of this trilogy

This is an amazing book. I received an arc of this book in return for an honest review
