Electi #4

Demented

Rate this book
Iris McGivern never envisioned spending her twenties locked up in a psychiatric hospital, but there she is. Stuck with bad food, rude staff, and rules, rules, rules. The place is interminably dull. At least, it is until the murders start. Oh, sure, management claims the deaths are accidents, but Iris knows better. How? Because she can speak to the victims.

Newly qualified psychiatrist Marcus Hastings never aspired to work in a secure unit, but his rent won't pay itself. And he hates to back away from a challenge, even if that challenge is a delusional blonde who talks to birds, squirrels, and occasionally thin air. Fascinating, in a purely clinical sense, of course.

When fate throws them together, will Iris escape with her life? And will Marcus escape with his sanity?

Demented is a standalone paranormal romantic suspense novel in the Electi series.

I totally heart Iris and Marcus!

I also love that this is not the end of Electi series but rather the beginning of an era. I cannot wait for the next book!

(Wait. Is this considered a spoiler?😅)

t is impossible to describe "Demented" without including spoilers. The plot is rich and twisted, and every turn of the story is, in itself, a delectable cameo episode. Though part of a series, "Demented" is unique, and can be read as a stand-alone novel while following the general storyline.
The book has a copious cast of lively characters, many of them with complex and multi-faceted personalities. Most of the protagonists of the previous episodes' play a role in the story too. Together, they populate the fast-paced plot making it engaging and captivating at all times.
The latest addition to the Electi team, Iris, is a fascinating mix of naiveté, resilience, and wit, topped with optimism and a heart of gold. Her counterpart, Marcus, is introduced as a responsible doctor and troubled father. As the story proceeds, he reveals unexpected, unconventional traits that make him a charming character. Marcus's and Iris's interactions in the first part of the book give life to a few irresistible and hilarious scenes. Later in the book, as their relationship grows, their story turns sweet and emotional.
Other characters deserve mention.
Lance, an unusual lawyer with a penchant for cartoon socks, could be worth a book on his own in the future.
Cassie, Marcus's six years old daughter, is smart and witty, despite being caught in the middle of her parents' nasty divorce.
A common feature in Ms Noble's work, the plot brings attention to sombre themes. In this case, the living conditions of the "service users" in the psychiatric wards of the mental hospitals. While the author treats this subject with competence and respect, it doesn't affect the overall lighthearted tone of the story.
Finally, for the faithful readers of the series, it is fascinating to see the four Electi come together. Surrounded by their extended family of partners and friends, they form a diverse and formidable team. Sharing the burden of their responsibilities, they are finally ready to face their ultimate mission.

Well Ms. Noble ...

Honestly, Elisa, I swear I waited forever for this fourth book, and yet after reading, worth every moment!
Truly, what a storyline! I am amazed with each of the Electi Series, just as I absolutely adore all things Blackwood! But this book, simply put wow! Incredible story with corruption, (surprise-as if it couldn't truly happen, since it does every day) love, crazy, and fulfillment, almost.
The setting was stellar, and while it seems so gothic and perhaps unrealistic to some, even in the "baby" USA compared to England, buildings of such exist. Most started as semi professional, and then add human greed, etc, and we too have our share of settings such as Lakeview.
I could say so much, but really since day one of Blackwood's first novel with Emmy, then the Electi Series, I am an addict of your amazing mind!
While I love to say, your number one fan, lol, your electronic pages suggest otherwise. You truly have a following, and for good reason!
For someone who set aside a life in corporate world, you truly belong in the one you have now!

Absolutely loved, and 2020 WHEN...?

Not having read the previous titles (Cursed, Spooked & Possessed) in the Electi Series I was a little worried I might have been lost in the overall storyline of the series but thankfully that was not the case. As part of a series you can still pick up this title read it and be non the wiser it is part of a bigger storyline, which is great.
Loved the characters of Iris and Marcus and of their struggles within their own lives, but the wonderful direction that brings them together. Great mystery, with some mayhem and lots of secrets, lies and murder.
After having finished this book (4th) in the series I was very eager to go to the beginning to read about our other members of The Electi that was to unite them for their duty to humankind.

This is the 4th book in the electi series. Everything comes together in this book so you definitely want to read the first 3 before you read this one. It ends in a semi cliffhanger and judged (the 5th book) is not out yet so be aware your going to be anxiously awaiting the 5th book like I am. This book was so good, just like all the electi series! I recommend this book to everyone and I have been recommending it to everyone i talk to!

Loved it

I love the twists and turns in Elise’s books. Just when you think there’s no way out, she gives an entertaining and clever plot twist. I’m also glad the Electi series isn’t over. The paranormal twist is fun and thoughtful. Iris is a great character, and Marcus was a great compliment to her.

Fantastic!!

I loved reading this series and this latest edition was not a disappointment. From the first word I read I was intrigued and could not but the book down. The saddest part was when it was over. I am looking forward to the next one. The judge seems to be in an interesting situation.

Fantastic

I just loved this book. Both Marcus and Iris are fantastic characters. The whole set up of the book has a believability that there may actually be places like this somewhere. It was scary and thrilling and the plot was great. A great story. Can't wait for more.

Demented by Elise Noble
The Electi - Book 4
This is a stand alone book with a Happy Ever After ending, but to get the most out of all the dynamics between the secondary characters, I would suggest you start at book 1 and read the Electi series in order. Like all Electi books in this series, there are paranormal elements woven into the story line. Elise Noble is a terrific story teller and no matter the genre of the story, you know that you are in for a great read.
This is the story of Iris, who at the beginning of this story already has been locked up for 5 years as a patient in a mental ward and Marcus who accepts the in house psychiatrist position, while dealing with his soon to be ex wife shenanigans, a custody battle over access to his young daughter, a missing dog, issues with his rental home while still paying the huge mortgage on the family home his wife and daughter live in.
The first 15 chapters covers back ground information and a day to day recounting of the living situations of both Iris and Marcus and frankly it paints a bleak picture. Then with the introduction of Nicole and the rest of the gang from the previous books, things start looking up and the story picks up the pace to finish with a Happy Ever After for Iris and Marcus and with a glimpse of what is to come in the next Electi book. This story kept me engaged till the very last page. 4 Stars.
This is a paranormal romantic suspense novel, so if this is not your cup of tea, read another Elise Noble book.

I was quite confused about the start in a psychiatric hospital but soon found out that Iris is one of the Electi and there because she freed her mother's ghost by killing her killer.

Iris is drugged from her former psychiatrist but her new one, Dr. Hastings changes her medication and soon she feels more alive and she can think clearly again. That helps her psychiatrist to realize she's not as crazy as he thought.

Strange things happen at Lakeview and they seem to have a killer on the loose. So when Kimberly comes in doing a research, Marcus is sceptical at first but since she's another Electi and they searched for Iris for years, he soon helps them to get Iris out of the psychiatric hospital before she gets killed as well.

Certainly it's not easy and the Electi plus their better halves need to do a lot of digging to find enough dirt to bring the police in.

Long story short, I love Iris and Marcus and it's amazing that we can look forward to at least one more book in this series and find out even more of all the fantastic characters.

As usual, Elise Noble has me hooked from the first page to the last. Iris finds herself in a mental institution - and not a good one, at that. But there is hope when she gets a new psychiatrist... Is she delusional or does she just experience things that other people don't? Well, some other people do - her Electi sisters. But even if they do find each other, how do they convince the system that Iris is not mentally ill?

The Electi series is a bit different from most - even most of Elise's other books. This series is about some rather unique women with some even more unique gifts. If you like your books to be about subjects we can all see and touch, this is not it. But - if you maintain an open mind and have an appreciation for witty dialogue, likable characters, and quirky plot twists you will love this book and the others in the series. And by the way - check out literally ALL books by Elise Noble, you won't regret it.

Demented was honestly fantastic. The story arc never fails to disappoint. I love Iris and Marcus. This may actually be my favorite of the four Electi books thus far but it’s so hard to pick. I highly recommend reading the other three Electi books first if you have not already done so.

As with every single Elise Noble book I have read (all of them), the characters are well developed, plot points are interesting, the dialogue is witty, and I end up reading the book in one sitting. Noble is one of those gifted writers who make you eager for the next book. I love her writing style. She seamlessly mixes action, mystery, romance, comedy, and in this series - the paranormal.
Indulge yourself and dive into this series and all her books.

In Demented, we meet the 4th Electi, Iris, who is locked up in a psychiatric hospital, and Marcus, her newly assigned psychiatrist. Along the way they deal with ghosts, murder and abuse of power. As always, Elise draws a very vivid picture of Iris' and Marcus' lives and interactions, while painting a story that draws us along from the very first page, so we are always cheering them on. The rest of the Electi finally catch up with Iris and, thankfully, we find out there is still a missing piece so there will be another book in the series! I loved this story and can't wait for the next book. Elise is such an entertaining author.
Elise writes several different series, all of which I enjoy. The Electi series is better read in order, but you can read them individually.

What an absolutely brilliant book. As you can see from my start and finish dates I couldn’t put it down. I was totally captivated by this storyline and the supernatural aspects. I loved the developing relationship between the two main characters and my emotions ranged from disbelief to laugh out loud moments where my husband gave me strange looks as I chuckled to myself. This story encompasses everything from tragedy to a love story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next in the series. Well done Elise, another fantastic read to add to your ever expanding amazing collection of works!!

PS. If Supernatural is not quite your thing then I highly recommend Elise’s Blackwood Security Series, a definite must read!

When I first started reading the Electi books, I wasn't too sure about them. I've read each one as they come out, and gotten more and more invested in them. I thought this would be the last book, and was sad about that - turns out I was wrong and its not the last - yay!

While these books have an element of the paranormal about them, they are stories of the bonds we make outside of family, that are just as strong, if not stronger. This is all mixed in with some mystery to be solved, usually some action, and a whole lot of humor. I would highly recommend these, and the rest of Elise's books.

It should have been called “Amazed” because I am! I truly loved Demented, and I’m amazed that it seems that Elise’s writing just gets better and better for each book.

It’s the fourth book in the Electi series and we finally meet the last of the four girls with supernatural abilities. As always with Elise’s books the characters are amazingly described both physically and their mentality.
The book is a rollercoaster of suspense keeping you on edge and making it very hard to put I down before reaching the end. Suspense and romance in the perfect package!

A must read!

Demented the fourth book in the Electi Series was as thrilling as the first three books. Elise never fails to draw you into the story with ever word she writes. And keeps you guessing right up until the end the identity of the villain. Who would have guessed that the killer would have been....... Ok not spoiling it for you but the identity was not who I thought it would have been.

Elise keep on writing because your books are like a drug that I constantly need a fix. I will keep supporting your work no matter what. Thanks for an awesome experience as always.

A Hit Out of the Park!
Was justice served when Iris killed the man who killed her mother? Following Iris’ story in a privately owned institution for the criminally insane made me wonder. It is filled with twists and turns. Precisely when things seem to be going Iris’ way, Elise throws another curve ball to shake up the story. This is the fourth book of the Electi series. This book should be read in order of the series to allow the reader to understand the storyline and the multiple characters that are introduced.
It is worth reading the series.

I have to agree with the other reviewers amazing, brilliant. I love Elise's writing but this surpassed the others. Iris is a great character, she comes alive and I trembled for her. She finds herself in hell with no escape. Along comes her knight, but Marcus has problems of his own and has few choices to rescue her. He needs help and help comes from the other members of Electi. And this isn't the end of the series, Yippee! I look forward to the next book but first I will re-read this one, several times. Thank you, Elise, for asking me to voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book

Loved it! Can't wait to read the next book in this series.

With a touch of the paranormal, this book has so much to enjoy - from comedy to drama to romance and mystery. I love the depth of characters and the relationship between them. The book is fast-paced, flows easily and is a pleasure to read - never a dull moment. I won't reiterate the storyline as that is what the blurb is for. Highly recommended for fans of Elise Noble and fans of the paranormal.

Demented is the terrific fourth book in the wonderful Electi Series. Iris is in a badly run psychiatric unit and she is not getting out anytime soon. I was hooked from the very first page right up to the very intense final page. Great characters and a totally unique storyline combine with just the right amount of suspense and a dash of humour to make this a cracking read. Although this can be read as a stand-alone with a HEA it is part of a series and to fully appreciate it I definitely recommend that the Electi books are read in order. I loved this book and cannot recommend it highly enough.

LOVED it!! I absolutely loved this addition to the Electi series. I thought the characters were compelling and the plot kept me guessing. I feel like this is a new type of book from Elise because it is set in a mental facility, which just made the book that much more amazing. Definitely reading it again!!

What a compelling and fascinating book and series. Iris and Marcus are an unusual couple but their story is emotional and original as is this whole series. We catch up with previous characters and although this can be read as a standalone it’s best enjoyed after reading the previous books. This book has so many intricacies it’s makes for a compelling read. Highly recommend this book and series
