Agatha Lerner likes to walk her own path in life. By day, she’s a hacker, and by night, she waits for a hot biker-slash-commando to materialise in her bedroom. She’s never given him a key. He doesn’t seem to need one.
So when she’s invited to her younger sister’s wedding on a quiet Maine island, the last thing Agatha wants is a lecture on her poor life choices, but she knows she’s going to get one. After all, she’s her mom’s biggest disappointment. A pretend boyfriend seems like the perfect solution, but the path of fake love never runs smooth, and Agatha’s plan to take a good, honest man to meet her family soon spirals out of control…
Phantom is a standalone novella featuring characters from the Blackwood Security series.
Elise Noble is an English rose with a few thorns who loves chocolate, sleep, and well-defined abs. Not hers, unfortunately. She lives near London with a horse who eats all her money and three dogs who eat everything else.
Elise writes real, gutsy heroines and flawed but swoon-worthy heroes in stories that mix mystery and mayhem, humour and happily-ever-afters.
This is a stand-alone book set in the Blackwood world with familiar characters making a brief appearance. Please be aware this is a novella of approx. 136 pages intended for adult readers with descriptive sex scenes and adult language. We are introduced to Agatha who works for Blackwood Security as an analyst and is single by choice, after a successful career with the FBI was derailed by vicious rumours spread by a vengeful ex-partner. Agatha requires a +1 for a family wedding and what follows is a delightful tale with a Happy Ever After ending for Agatha and Hawk. I am a fan of Elise Noble story telling ability. A great read. Disclaimer: I received an Advanced Reader Copy from the author.
I wasn't much taken with Agatha on first meeting, I truly expected her to be a snake in the grass and then Elise Noble does her whizzyoozit thing and suddenly I wouldn't mind Agatha as a friend. That's real magic that is. Hawk, well, I fell for him the minute I met him. He simply grew hotter in this book. Yum yum. As ever, the characterisation is spot on, even the horrid ones. The plotline is engaging and made me laugh out loud several times (Hawk's favourite good cracked me up) I always feel that Elise's books are ten chapters too short and this one is no different. I could read the Blackwood world all day. There are some sex scenes and some swearing. I wholeheartedly recommend the book.
I never get tired of the Blackwood Security team and all the people who are part of it. This story focused on Hawk and Agatha, but you could feel the team behind them. The story took an unusual turn in that it focused a lot on Agatha, her family, and the truths she learns about them. She and Hawk find their common ground as they work through their relationship. But I got to say "poor Kellen" LOL. Agatha learns that her happiness and being herself are important and this makes what happens in this story so rewarding. And, of course, the Blackwood team has a pool going on these two as has become the norm. I just don't get how they always seem to know.
Well worth reading along with all the other Blackwood series.
Yep she did it again!! I know I always say how brilliant Elise’s books are but seriously, there’s a reason for this. Time after time, she does not disappoint. This is a fantastic novella with just the right amount of chemistry, hot and heavy moments, a few laughs, a mystery to solve and of course, a Blackwood Security hot alpha male.
If you haven’t read any of the Blackwood Security series then I’m both jealous and excited for you as you will be diving head first into a brilliant series for the first time. Start with the Black Trilogy or the first book Pitch Black and I know you’ll love the characters as I much as I do.
This book came at the perfect time for me. Having a stressful time I needed a short light hearted read and yet again Elise Noble delivers. Set in the Blackwood Security world but you could easily read this without knowledge of the others (though it does help for context). While Agatha is confident in her abilities at work she finds dealing with her family difficult and stressful. In order to make attending her younger sisters wedding more bearable she has a colleague join her as a pretend boyfriend. What ensures is hilarious and heartwarming at the same time. Thanks Elise for giving me a short escape when I needed it.
In this stand-alone novella in the Blackwood series, we get to follow Agatha & Hawk's developing relationship as they move from "friends with benefits" to romantic partners. This is set against the backdrop of Agatha's dysfunctional family navigating the wedding of her youngest sister. The story is packed full of laugh-out loud moments and quick pop-ins from Blackwood favorites. The storyline and character development are fantastic! I'm looking forward to the next full-length Blackwood Security novel!
I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Phantom is the Latest Blackwood Security book. It can be read as a wonderful stand-alone although there are references to regular Blackwood characters.
Hawk is gorgeous, sexy, hot and single but does not do relationships or commitment. Agatha is a quiet, super smart hacker .. and single. They are not friends but at nights sparks fly. When Agatha needs a plus one things really begin to get interesting.
Wonderful characters as always and a fabulous storyline. Blackwood Security books are definitely a must read. They are always delightful and Phantom is no exception. I loved this book and cannot recommend it highly enough.
Entertaining as always Elise hits new heights while examining relationships, fears and family dynamics in the novella Phantom. Using her unique humor, Elise exposes the true nature of her characters. And what better place than a wedding to watch the family dynamics take place? No where else. The wedding is painful, exciting, intriguing and enlightening. My husband frequently referred to our family get togethers as a torture trip. There was never a dull moment! And still love was in the air. This is a great read!
I enjoyed Phantom, the ideally suited read for a summer weekend. It is challenging to classify Phantom into a genre. The novel is a witty and entertaining interpretation of the classic "fake fiancee" plot. The characters are lively, three-dimensional, and engaging. I laughed at how the author stigmatized the behaviors of those who always rush to embrace the latest trends without exactly knowing what they are about. The book, however, is never too severe and has plenty of delightfully funny moments and even some cameo-sweet interludes, making it a pleasurable and entertaining novel.
This time we get to know Hawk (who we first met in “A Scarlet Affair” ) and Agatha the IT analyst a bit better. At Agatha’s sisters wedding she needs someone to back her up in the psychological battle with the condescending and judgemental family she was born into. As always Elise’s storytelling and characters are amazing - the story captures you as a reader, makes you laugh - and almost makes you want to strangle Agatha’s younger sister (who said bridezilla??). A lovely and fun story - loved it!
When former FBI agent Agatha Lerner takes a fake boyfriend to her sister’s wedding to appease her disapproving family, her well-intentioned plan soon takes a chaotic turn...
This book is a quick read - a nice story with romance, steaming intimacy, family drama, and a bit of redemption. Agatha and Hawk are endearing characters, both part of the core Blackwood team. I enjoy the continuous fleshing out of the larger Blackwood story by various characters who are mentioned in previous stories, subsequently having their own story. Hopefully, it won’t be long until the next one!
Once again Ms Noble delivers an awesome story. I love the world of Blackwood. The characters, the drama, the humour and obviously the mystery and love interests. This book held me captive from the first page to the last. This book also had a bit of everything, a mystery, a sexy hot Alpha and a great heroine. It’s not just these two characters it’s the whole family of Blackwood that makes this authors writing so special. Awesome book
Quick, fun, exciting read! Enjoyed it and easily could have continued to read their story! I always miss the characters when im done with their story and this was no different. Elise has done a great book yet again! But i am pretty sure that elise couldnt write a bad story! Ive even gotten a coworker reading them now and its been so fun having her read them too!
I recieved an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Loved this entertaining novella that feels like a proper, whole book. Featuring Agatha and Hawk's relationship, this is a fun, light-hearted story with a side of mean siblings, an overpowering mother, some hilarious moments and two people who live life on their own terms. I highly recommend this book (and all of Elise's other books!).
Another great Blackwood book. I love how each book in the series, whether novella like this or full size book gives you more of the story from a different point of view. This one is part of Agatha’s story, and it’s a good one. If you like light entertainment with a bit of action, romance, and a puzzle to solve, these are the books for you.
Quick and dirty! Loved Agatha and Hawks story. Even though this is just a novella it packed in a lot into such a short book! I didn’t feel like it left anything out! You got the full picture of their unique relationship! I enjoyed it so much I went back and read the first book that they were in ( that I can remember) The Scarlet affair! I mean it never hurts to re-read any of Elise’s books!
I really, really loved Phantom! Elise Noble’s books are always fantastic; especially the Blackwood Security series. There’s mystery and romance and a little bit of comedy! Phantom had some really funny instances in it, and I nearly laughed my head off at times. I gave Phantom a 5-star rating because let’s face it - it deserves it!!! Great job, Elise Noble!👌👌👌
Enjoyable Novella Great to read more about a character that appeared in an earlier book. Loved the romance between Agatha and Hawk, almost as much as they did! Elise Noble is a master storyteller, and this book is no exception.
I have been curious about Agatha since we first met her years ago. She is one of those characters that makes you wonder about their story. Hawk wasn't ever on my radar, but I sure am glad we got to know him. Excellent novella!
Another great read in the Blackwood Security series.
Loved Agatha and Hawks story. It was a great read, some funny moments, a dysfunctional family and good twists in the story. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
Another 5 star read. I love this series and wish Amazon would make it to the big screen. It was great reading about another member of team. Well written and now added to my collection Can’t wait for more
I truly enjoyed this novella. The only downside was that it was a novella. The characters were engaging and fun, the action was nonstop. Another great read. I just hope we get to see more of the characters in the future. I was given a free copy of this book to review.
Phantom is a relatively quicker read but nonetheless, another one of Elise's amazing works...I love how the author creates stories for all the blackwood security members in such interesting and captivating ways...thank you for your amazing work, Elise.
I loved this insight into Agatha and Hawk. I wasn't sure about her in The Scarlett Affair, but she's really easy to like. And the shenanigans are something else!
This book is a short read for the plane or train! A love story with a little grit and naughty added in. Humorous in part with a little bag girl added in.
