Why I wrote the Blackwood Elements Series

Originally, I planned to write two series for Blackwood – Blackwood Security, set mainly in the United States, and Blackwood UK, set in… You've guessed it, the UK (that'll be coming in the summer). But I got a few ideas for stories that didn't fit within those series, in terms of timeline, in terms of style, or in terms of location. So, I decided to write them anyway, and put them into their own series of “extras.”

Oxygen came first, following Akari from Forever Black. I felt she got a bit hard done by in FB, because people were rooting for Emmy and automatically disliked the competition. But Akari still had her story to tell, in a book that starts a few months after Forever Black ends. When Bradley flies to Boston in Out of the Blue, that ties in with his visit in Oxygen. Apart from the timeline, Oxygen didn't fit with the main series because of its plot – it's more of a romance, although I couldn't resist putting in a twist at the end.

Then came Lithium, following Sofia from Oxygen. How did she fall from grace? Living in England, I get sick of the grey weather, so I decided to set this tale of love and revenge in the Cayman Islands to give myself some imaginary sun. Although Lithium has some thriller elements, and Sofia's history is kind of warped, I still think of this as more of a romance.

After Lithium, I wrote Carbon, and I'm not sure what planet I was on when I came up with that plot. The first third is a dirty romance (the grubbiest I've written so far), a love triangle that could go either way. In fact, I did write an alternate ending, and I'll probably give that away as a bonus. But the second part is pure thriller and crosses over all three series – Emmy, Xav, Sofia, Black, and Nye (Blackwood UK) are all in play, plus Gideon, another of Emmy's exes, and a few new characters. Carbon is being edited at the moment, and will be published over the summer. I'll most likely write Gideon's story too at some point.

Rhodium is a companion novel for White Hot (Dan's story, Blackwood Security #9), which will be out later this year. I always knew Emmy's lawyer had a filthy streak, and it comes out in this book. Definitely my dirtiest story so far, this one is a romance again.

I plan to write at least two more books in the Elements series, coming after Blackwood Security #12. One will be a thriller, and the other…? I'll keep that to myself for now.

I first read Pitch Black as it was free and thought why not give it a try. Well, I now put all of Elises` release dates on my calendar whilst eagerly anticipating each one!! The Blackwood series is by far the best I have read and Blackwood Elements gives me the fix I need in between releases. Lithium is AMAZING. I fell in love with Fia and Leo. I cannot wait for Life to be released and am counting the hours for Ultraviolet. Elise – please don’t stop !!

    • Aw, thanks so much for your comment – it made my day 🙂 I’m just doing the final edits on Ultraviolet, and Fia will be back in Carbon soon 🙂

This series has been so great that I hate the time it takes for you to publish the next book. I read just one as a free novel, and was so hooked I made my husband buy the rest as gifts for me.

I received your first Blackwood Series book for free, once I read that I’ve continued to buy, get the free shorts, and read them all through Red. IN A WEEK! I’m exhausted. HA. Now I’m gonna start on the Elements series. But hopefully I’ll give myself some time to sleep. Also my husband will be happy if I get some dishes done .

    • So glad you’ve enjoyed the series! Reading them all in a week is seriously impressive – I’m not surprised you’re knackered. P.S. Paper plates are a thing 🙂

Love your books. I’m frustrated though because I’ve been unable to obtain “Just Breathe “. I get all the way to the request step but the link to download it never appears in either of my two email accounts. (And yes I’ve checked my junk mail. ). I’m frustrated because I’m missing out on Emmy and Sofia. ☹️

    • Aw, I’m sorry it’s gone AWOL. Sometimes email servers block emails completely 🙁 I’ve sent you a copy of Just Breathe directly – if ever the problem happens again, just drop me a message 🙂
